Someone that I admire that has had a strong impact on my life is my mom. She has had a huge impact on me and my character. Ever since I was little she's been my role model. I did everything that I could to be just like her. I would go to work with her, rummage through her closet, and always offer to go with her to run errands. My mom has taught me so many life lessons growing up that I won’t forget. She taught me to have confidence in myself, be kind to everyone, and that my actions affect others. She has shaped me into the strong person that I am today. My mom is one of the wisest, most caring people that I know. At times where I felt like I had no one, she made sure I knew she was right by my side. I have always looked up to my mom and I hope that when I grow up I can have the impact that she had on me with other people in the world.

The animal that I think matches my personality the best is a sea otter. I’ve always loved otters. My admiration grew for them when I would visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium and was able to see them joyously swim and carry their food on their stomachs. They’re so adorable and are always able to make me smile. They seem genuinely happy which just makes me happy. Also, I feel a connection with them because of their life in the water. I've always felt drawn to the water so seeing them thrive in it is something that we have in common. Otter personalities love people and enjoy being popular, influencing and motivating others. Otters are sometimes hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities also usually have lots of friends, but sometimes not deep relationships. This type of personality fits me very well because I can be very bubbly when I’m in a group of people but I also am only close with a few people that I really trust.

Nothing New by Taylor Swift
They tell you while you're young "Girls, go out and have your fun" Then they hunt and slay the ones who actually do it Criticize the way you fly when you're soarin' through the sky Shoots you down and then they sigh, and say "She looks like she's been through it" Lord, what will become of me Once I've lost my novelty? I've had too much to drink tonight And I know it's sad, but this is what I think about And I wake up in the middle of the night It's like I can feel time moving How can a person know everything at 18 but nothing at 22? And will you still want me when I'm nothing new? How long will it be cute All this crying in my room Whеn you can't blame it on my youth And roll your eyes with affеction? And my cheeks are growing tired From turning red and faking smiles Are we only biding time 'til I lose your attention? And someone else lights up the room? People love an ingénue I've had (I've had) too much to drink tonight How did I go from growing up to breaking down? And I wake up (wake up) in the middle of the night It's like I can feel time moving How can a person know everything at 18 but nothing at 22? Will you still want me when I'm nothing new? I know someday I'm gonna meet her, it's a fever dream The kind of radiance you only have at 17 She'll know the way, and then she'll say she got the map from me I'll say I'm happy for her, then I'll cry myself to sleep Oh, whoa, whoa Oh, whoa, whoa, oh, whoa, oh I've had (I've had) too much to drink tonight But I wonder if they'll miss me once they drive me out I wake up (wake up) in the middle of the night And I can feel time moving How can a person know everything at 18 but nothing at 22? And will you still want me Will you still want me Will you still want me When I'm nothing new? |
"Nothing New" by Taylor Swift really hits home for my senior year. The lyrics talk about the everyday struggles, mirroring what I'm going through. Swift's words about feeling tired and let down resonate with me, becoming a kind of anthem for finding myself in the usual stuff. It's a strong reminder that, despite time passing, some things just stay the same. In the song, Swift says, "Worn out, not worn in," capturing the idea of facing challenges, which relates to my senior year. We must find joy and happiness within our days even if it is "nothing new". With it being my senior year it feels that many things are repetitive and I'm just waiting until it's time to more on to college.

This peer in leadership is someone that I’m glad to be able to call one my best friends. Lucia Machado Perez is someone that I love dearly. I admire how genuine and real she is. We became closer last year and have continued to do so. I tell Lucia everything and love spending time with her, especially our chats we have during our different classes. She’s always there for me, listening to my problems and giving me advice, making me feel heard. I feel that we think on the same wavelength and sometimes it feels almost as if she’s reading my mind. Lucia is one of the most kind and caring people that I know. She always checks up on me. Lucia has been one of the only people that makes me feel valued and I’m so grateful for all of our memories we’ve been able to make and that I hope to continue to make.

My favorite hobby to do has always been traveling. Ever since I was little my family has always had some big vacation planned over summer and with my parents being separated it meant being able to explore at least two completely new places each year. I’ve been to places like Canada, Hawaii, St. Thomas, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Florida, New Mexico, Arizona, Wyoming, Oregon, New Jersey, New York, Washington D.C., Tennessee and much more. Traveling is something that I enjoy because I always see something new. My dad always has us go visit a National Park or Museum when we travel. When I was younger I thought they were boring but now I really enjoy learning about history and nature. Being in a new environment feels like an adventure with so many different possibilities. One of the reasons that I travel so much is also to see family. Two of my aunts live in Pennsylvania so I usually go there about every other summer which is really fun because I get to hangout with my cousins and we get to go see monuments and memorials that are in that area. I know that not everyone has the opportunities that I do so I’m really grateful that my family has been able to travel so much because it has allowed me to explore pieces of history and have a stronger gratitude for the past. I especially enjoy trips with my mom because we always do something unique that we wouldn’t be able to do at home like snorkeling, scooting underwater, going to amusement parks, riding a horse, and a lot more. Overall, I really enjoy traveling because of the time I get to spend with my family and the memories that I am able to create and I’m so glad that I’ve been able to see so many different things in the world.
