Payton Miller-Kay Freshman Representative October 2, 2020
August & September ASB Report
Position Assessment: As a Freshman Representative this year I have worked on the Freshman T-shirt Drive Through and Secret Spotlights along with informing the Freshman Class about events and activities. I also came up with the theme “Sweater Weather” as our Fall Fest spirit day. The Freshman Representatives and I are currently working on ideas for decor that will be used on the door and truck for Fall Fest. Professional Development: I have worked to develop professional skills through schoolwork, class discussion, homework, and etc by managing my time and collaborating with my fellow Freshman Representatives. These skills have prepared me for life after high school because when I get my job I will need to be able to communicate effectively with my coworkers, clients, boss, and etc. I have also grown by thinking outside of the box for new ways that we can keep Ripon High school students involved during distance learning. Concerns/Change: I am concerned about how things will go in leadership next year. I know my spot in the leadership program is not confirmed but if I do make it in I am worried that I won’t know how to run and plan events. This year we haven’t done many events and the ones that we have done are different from years before. So, I’m worried I won’t have any experience or background knowledge on what to do. Positive Comment: I’d like to shout out Nikki Nguyen for always checking in on the Representatives and I to make sure that we are on track. I can tell that she puts her everything into each thing that she does. She is such a hard worker and always is there for us. She really is a great leader and I’m glad that she is there for us. My Impact: I believe that I have changed the world today by being a positive light. Right now people need someone that can make them feel like they aren’t alone and I hope to be that person. I love to help people. Whether it's smiling at a stranger or telling someone that you love them. I believe that being a positive person for yourself and others can genuinely make the world a better place. All you have to do is take a small amount of time out of your day to make someone else’s day way better.

October & November ASB Report
Position Assessment: Throughout the months of October and November the freshman representatives and I did many things. In October we planned and executed Fall Fest. This included social media posts, dressing up for spirit days, attending the Halloween Trick or Treat drive through, decorating a door and float. In November, we carried out “Dude, be nice”. In this event we awarded Mr. Perez and created a card or video for him. Each of the freshman representatives also participated in a gratitude video, even though we didn’t know it at first. Professional Development: I have worked to develop professional skills by coming out of my shell. I used to be really shy and nervous to talk to new people but ever since we have gone back to school in person I’ve loved meeting new people. This will be good for life after high school because I will have to converse with coworkers and bosses. Concerns/Change: I am concerned about the communication and inclusiveness between the freshman reps. We are all in the same rank and shouldn’t be leaving others out of the loop or taking over projects. I feel like a few of the reps only do things to make themselves look better than doing it without expecting to be rewarded and applauded. This leaves less opportunities for others to have a voice. Positive Comment: I’d like to acknowledge all of the freshman representatives. We have all worked super hard this school to make distance and in person learning enjoyable for the RHS students. I’m really glad that I’ve been able to get to know and become friends with these awesome people. My Impact: I believe that I have changed the world by being there for others. Even though it seems like a small act it makes a big difference. I always try to be there for others whether that’s listening to their problems, saying “Hi! How are you?” to someone I pass in the hallways, or even something as simple as telling someone that you’re there for them when you need them. In this day and age people will always need someone that they can rely on and trust no matter what. I hope that I can be that person for others.
February and March ASB Report
Payton Miller-Kay Freshman Representative 17 March 2021 Position Assessment: The months of February and March were pretty repetitive until recently. In February, we had campaigning, voting, and interviews for elections along with a letter to a veteran. We also sold class t-shirts during lunch for a week. March introduced the idea of homecoming and St. Patrick’s Day spirit. Each freshman representative wrote a message for a freshman on a clover that was then hung up on a window for them to take with them. Right now we have decided that the theme for homecoming will be a blast from the past and will be based on events that we missed because of the coronavirus. Professional Development: I have worked to develop my professional skills through leadership applications, speeches, and interviews. These things have helped me to show my strengths and to voice what I am passionate about. They have also prepared me for what the real world will be like. Concerns/Change: With homecoming and activities starting soon I’m worried that the student body might not be very aware of everything going on and so they won’t participate in some things. Positive Comment: I would like to recognize Decia Guttierrez for being such a positive light not only in the leadership classroom but also outside of school. I feel that I can always talk to Decia if I have any questions. Even in cheer she was so kind and was really supportive. I would also like to recognize Decia for doing such a great job on the scrap book and keeping everyone on track! My Impact: These two months back in school have given me great opportunities to be able to display what I can do. I hope that with this I have inspired others to also show their strengths and try things outside of their comfort zone. Special Committee: I will be decorating the back wall of the amphitheatre for Coronation during Homecoming.
