Payton Miller-Kay Spirit Commissioner 31 August 2021
August ASB Report
Position Assessment: During the month of August the Spirit Commissioners and I have been a part of Selling Pride Tribe shirts at Orientation and club rush. We also publicized the Back To School Dance, Spirit Days, and Club Rush T-shirt sales. Along with promoting spirit by dressing up for spirit days, we handed out candy each spirit day to students that have dressed up. Standing Committee: The spirit commissioners, Abby Thompson, and I have been going out during fourth period weekly to distribute candy to each of the students that have dressed up. We also totaled up the number of students that dressed up in each grade which later turns into a social media post for the student body to see who is in the lead for spirit count. We hope to continue doing this throughout the whole school year to increase school spirit. Special Committee: I am not in a special committee at this time. Mentorship Evaluation/Completion at time of Meeting: I have really enjoyed the new mentorship program! My mentor is April Yan and I feel like we’ve really clicked. Whenever I need help with anything I know I can go to her with questions. Even though we’ve been in the program the same amount of time I like to bounce ideas back and forth and get her input. We also have decided to plan monthly lunches to catch up with each other. Concerns: Even though we thoroughly publicize spirit days it seems like people still don’t know when to dress up. For example, during club rush spirit counts students and even teachers would ask us what the spirit day was or what tomorrow’s dress up day was when we have been posting about it for weeks on social media. I don’t know if there’s much more we can do but I think we need to find a memorable way to announce spirit days. Positive Comment: I would like to shout out Abby Thompson for stepping up with spirit counts this month! We have had people missing due to Covid but she was able to help us by taking spirit count and also creating a social media post for each spirit day! I know it’s not her specific job but it is greatly appreciated. One Change: A change I would like to see is more unique ways of distributing information. I think the canva posts look cool but it seems like no one actually reads them. They just glance at them on their feed and then keep scrolling. Maybe if we had a more variety like videos or even comics it would draw people in to actually know the information. My Impact: I have impacted this campus and my peers by helping anyone I can whether it’s leadership related or just life. I hope that I can continue to be someone that others look to for help and guidance.

September/October ASB Report
Position Assessment: During the months of September and October the spirit commissioners and I continued with spirit counts each week. This also includes the counts during homecoming week. Along with showing our spirit we also publicized the homecoming days by filming videos with some of the teachers about what they will be wearing on each spirit day. Individually, I set up and cleaned up decorations for the Halloween dance. I also helped with the creation of the float, poster making, and setting up the window decorations for our class competitions during homecoming. Standing Committee: The spirit commissioners and I go out every Friday during fourth period to collect spirit counts and distribute candy to students that have dressed-up. Special Committee: I was a part of the sophomore class float and lip/dance sync committees. Mentorship Evaluation: Me and April have continued to have monthly lunches where we get to catch up with each other. I really like having someone also in the program that I can go to with any questions that I might have. Concern: It seems like our student body doesn’t pay attention to events and activities that are going on so I think that we need to find multiple ways to reach out information through social media but not just Instagram because it seems like a lot of people do not actually look at their posts. For example people that actually follow the ASB account will ask me about what they are supposed to be wearing for spirit days when they should already know. Positive Comment: I would like to shout out each of the spirit commissioners. They have all worked so hard to create a spirited environment for our school that makes others want to get involved. I’m really glad that I get to work with them this year and have been able to form new friendships while doing so. One Change: Like I said earlier it seems like we need to find multiple ways to keep our student body in the loop about upcoming events. My Impact: I have impacted the world by trying to make each and every person I meet’s life a little brighter. I know that it is a small gesture but just even making someone laugh can add up to eventually, a large impact.

November/December ASB Report
Position Assessment: During the months of November and December the spirit commissioners and I have continued with weekly spirits counts along with counts of the “Warm and Fuzzy” spirit week. We are currently planning the themes for the upcoming basketball games, making social media posts to publicize this, and creating decorations for the foyer for certain games. We have had a meeting with Mrs. Pendleton about each theme. Personally, I have been doing whatever I can to help the sophomore class officers. This includes setting up for formal, cleaning up after, taking everything down the next day, and aiding with the decorating of our class tree in the MUB. Standing Committee:The spirit commissioners and I go out every Friday during fourth period to collect spirit counts and distribute candy to students that have dressed-up. Special Committee: I am not a part of a special committee at this time. Mentorship Evaluation: I’m really glad that April and I got each other for the mentorship program! I love being able to know that I have someone I can talk to not just in leadership but also outside of the classroom. I really enjoy going on our monthly lunches and I’m looking forward to getting to know each other better. Concerns: I am concerned about the communication between the sophomore class. It seems like the people outside of the officer team are not really informed on what’s going on. We all want to be involved with activities and I think that if we were told about things ahead of time it would be less stressful trying to explain everything at the last minute. Positive Comment: I would like to command April for always having such a positive attitude. Even when she’s under a lot of stress she’s able to always look on the bright side which I think shows just how good of a leader she is. During the door wrapping, even when things were falling apart April kept a positive mindset which made everyone else less stressed. One change: As said previously, I believe that the Sophomore class needs to work on their communication with each other. My Impact: I have impacted the world by being kind to others. I always try my best to be approachable and open to others. For example, during spirit counts I always try to smile at everyone and make sure to laugh at the teacher’s jokes. It’s important to make others feel seen and acknowledged.
Position Assessment: During the month of January the spirit commissioners and I have continued with weekly spirit counts along with counts for winterfest. Although we did run out of candy, there were a lot of people involved in our spirit days. Along with spirit counts we worked with Mrs. Pendleton coming up with themes for the boys basketball games, publicizing it to our student body, and decorating the gym/foyer. We are also planning on working with the pride tribe to sell the rest of the T-shirts that we have and to possibly design a new shirt for the upcoming school year. Standing Committee: The spirit commissioners and I go out every Friday during fourth period to collect spirit counts and distribute candy to students that have dressed-up. Special Committee:I am not a part of a special committee at this time. Mentorship Evaluation: Throughout this school year I feel that April and I have been able to get a lot closer with the mentorship program this year. We have continued to have monthly lunches where we get to catch up with what is going on in each other’s lives. Whenever she sees me she always makes sure to say hi and it really makes my day so much better. Concerns: I have no concerns at this moment. Positive Comment: A positive comment I have is for Aver Redula. I recently got put at her table with our seating chart and honestly she has made each day so fun. She always is able to make me laugh and is a part of why I look forward to going to class. One Change: One change I would like to see is incorporating more “random” spirit days like the “anything but a backpack day” last month. I think that the student body had a lot of fun seeing everyone’s ideas and saw lots of involvement. It doesn’t have to be so big but maybe like crazy sock day or pajama day randomly throughout the months. My Impact: I have impacted the world by trying to make everyone feel involved. I know what it feels like to be alone and I never want anyone else to have to feel like that. So, I try my best to involve anyone that I can.

February & March ASB Report
Position Assessment: During the months of February and March the spirit commissioners and I have begun to prepare for the end of the year with Pride Tribe. We are planning to sell the pride tribe shirts that are in the student store during Ap Night and possibly track meets. We are also having a t-shirt design for next year in progress. So far we have agreed that the t-shirt will be red tie dyed and are now trying to find where we can get the shirt for the best price. Along with this, the spirit commissioners and I have continued to count spirit each Friday and for miscellaneous spirit days such as college day. Personally, I have been a part of eigth grade day as a link crew leader, directed traffic for the almond blossom festival, wrote Valentines Day cards, and cleaned up after the dodge ball match. Standing Committee:The spirit commissioners and I go out every Friday during fourth period to collect spirit counts and distribute candy to students that have dressed-up. Special Committee: I am a part of the committee for college reveal night and a part of the publicity committee for The Challenge. Mentorship Evaluation: April is such a great mentor. She is always checking up whenever I see her and is always willing to give help whenever needed. I’m glad that we’ve been able to spend some of our lunches together because it allows us to get to know each other outside of the leadership classroom. Concerns: My concern is about how to get the student body involved. I know that we publicize events and encourage people to attend but I wish that more people would get involved. Positive Comment: Claire is someone that I immediately felt similar too and sitting at the same table has really shown that. She’s so easy to talk to and always looking for ways to help. I’m so glad that Claire is in the program because I can see all of the amazing things that she’s capable of doing. One Change: One change I would like to see this year or this upcoming year is a more in depth lesson on how to write resumes and cover letters. I know that everyone's are going to be different but I think that it would be really helpful if we knew what to do to stand out to professionals. My Impact: I have impacted the world by being a positive influence that others can look up to.

May ASB Report
Position Assesmnet: Throughout the month of May the Spirit Commissioners and I did our final spirit counts and determined that this year the seniors had won with the most spirit. This meant ordering some sort of reward for them. The original plan was to get Jamba Juice for the grade but after learning that their prices had tripled we decided on each student getting a donut. We also got this years plate engraved on our plaque to be given to the seniors at the end of the year rally. The donuts that were ordered will be picked up on Thursday May 19th and given out during advisory to the senior classes. Standing Committee:The spirit commissioners and I go out every Friday during fourth period to collect spirit counts and distribute candy to students that have dressed-up. Special Committee: For the challenge I was a part of the publicity committee, specifically creating positive posters for those taking AP tests and having them placed on cars during 4th period. Mentorship Evaluation: April is one of the most genuine, kind people that I know and I couldn't have asked for a better mentor. She has always asked me how I am and makes the effort to say hi to me not just in leadership but also outside of the leadership classroom. I'm not sure if we would of been as close if it weren't for the mentorship program but I'm so glad that we did. Our lunches and random conversations were so much fun and I've grown to really trust April. Even if we aren't paired up again next year I hope that we can continue to grow our friendship. Concerns: My main concern is about what next school year is going to be like. A lot of things will be different and I want to make sure that I am still doing my best in everything that I do. Positive Comment: Someone that I would like to shout out is Emma Phelps. Her farewells really showed me how much of a positive influence she has had on not only the leadership program but each of the people in it aswell. She does so many things behind the scenes and deserves so much recognizition for all of her hard work and kindness. One Change: One change that I would like to see in the leadership program is more random acts of kindness. It doesn't have to be anything big but even something as simple as handing out flowers on campus can completely change the atmosphere of our school. My Impact: I have impacted the world by be there to help others. In cheer recently a lot of the new or younger girls got behind in learning the cheer and the dance so I was able to help them and hopefully become someone that they can come to in the future.
